"Qi Xie" represents the unusual as well as the fantastical.
"Free and Easy Wandering" by Zhuangzi is the source of "Qi Xie." It is a long-lost ancient manuscript that illustrates pre-Qin mythology.
This series, which heavily draws from ethnic mythological imagery, originates from a fundamental feeling of returning to the soil. Instead of showing specific mythological characters, the artworks capture the mythic spirit that was born in the region. Myth, which is truth wrapped in metaphor, connects the creative and imaginative energies that roam over the world and leaves a lasting impression on those who are born into it. These pieces appear to be shards of the primordial memory of the place.

In the scorching summer of 2015, during my school break, I went to visit my grandmother in Wuhan. At that time, I was studying photography in the UK and had a great passion for street photography. I would spend one or two hours every day wandering the streets, capturing moments. When I arrived in Wuhan, I explored the streets and alleys, visiting many places, but my favorite was the riverside. The riverside had a broad view, with reeds growing along the banks, complemented by the middle-aged people dancing under the shade of the willow trees. It was brimming with vitality, which sparked a strong desire in me to capture it through my lens. The seeds for the creation of the "Joy" series were planted during that time.

余遇書生於密篁間，聞其所述異事，似幻似真，亦虛亦實，妙不可言，遂錄其語，題曰《無相游》。
書生者，世居書香，少即刻苦攻讀，博學強識。其祖築藏書閣，書生旦暮浸淫其中。
一夕夢中，忽有羽衣老人示意曰：「閣中隅處，有一古本，題曰《齊諧》，其書記仙道鬼怪之實錄也，君可尋焉。」夢醒，書生依夢所指，果於暗處覓得其書。觀其帙黃紙舊，字跡蒼茫，遂若獲至寶，從此手不釋卷，晝夜讀之，廢寢忘食。
《齊諧》所載，包羅萬象，或神人，或異獸，或草木，或珍饈，莫不具載。有屬志怪傳奇者，有記殊方異域者。書生閱之而神思搖蕩，癲狂若失，日夜夢寐其中，恆念游其境而識其真。
遂擇書中所述某聖境之地，泛舟前往。未及所至，忽遇狂飆，舟楫飄搖，轉抵一神山之麓。乃系舟登岸，循幽徑而上，不覺行三四五里。興酣之際，越澗逾壑，漸失津道。恍惚之間，眼前突現一居所，屋宇整肅，非人間所居。其上有正堂，堂中懸一畫，圖中山氣巃嵷，怪石嵯峨。
書生注目久之，神搖意奪，忽覺身飄飄若駕雲霧，恍然已入畫中，處於深山之腹。
復行數十步，有物金眸白首現身於霧晦間，狀若天馬，行於林杪，蹄聲如雷。此物適去，而旌旗戈甲，千乘萬騎，遍滿崖谷來，呵斥之聲動天，有頃而散。
書生驚駭未定，繼續前行，四野景異，草木神形，非人間所有。書生行至一山隙，見有洞天之口，雲氣繚繞，鼓聲隱隱。書生循聲望之，恍惚間見古神真形，氤氳霏微，眉目莫辨；循聲而行，但聞鼓響，神影杳然。
忽覺心力俱竭，倚石而歇。遂沈然睡去。畫中須臾，人世已越數載。既寤，顧盼山林依舊，而物是人非，不復從前。其感慨無極，神情落寞，若有餘意未竟。
余於林間遇此書生，得聞其言。書生述畢，踽踽而去，不復所蹤。
