Hua Bu Nong Tan
The distinction between “flower” and “refined” follows a long-established tradition under feudal rule, where performing arts were divided into refined and popular forms. In this paradigm, Kunqu exemplifies the refined—symbolizing propriety—while Beijing opera and other regional forms fall under the “flower” category, denoting the eclectic. Jiao Xun extolled the sincere, impassioned spirit of these “flower” operas, whose bold tones stirred the very blood and spirit of the audience. By naming his treatise Nongtan (“Rural Anecdotes”), he clearly asserted his uncompromising artistic vision and courageous defiance of contemporary trends.
This series draws its inspiration from the world of regional opera, yet its creation occurs far from the stage—in the streets and the wilderness. Here, the raw, rooted vitality of the land harmonizes with the enduring tension of an art form passed down through generations.
Influenced in his early years by Japanese photography, the artist’s evolving visual language now reveals a profound cultural self-awareness. He seamlessly integrates his aesthetic experiences, reflections, and deep insights into his own cultural heritage. At the same time, he remains steadfast in preserving the purity of photography, carefully exploring an expressive mode that is uniquely its own, distinct from painting or cinema.
Folklore, people, animals, and landscapes—each of these subjects embodies vibrant, life-infused notes that spark his creative impulse. His innate musicality, awakened by the world’s primal rhythms, drives him to create with uninhibited passion; as though dancing within the fabric of existence, these elements gracefully drift into his photographs.
花部农谭
花、雅之分,沿袭了历来封建统治者分乐舞为雅、俗两部的旧例,昆曲为雅,雅即正,京腔等其他地方戏为花,花即杂。焦循推崇质直而富性情,其音慷慨,令人观后血气动荡的花部戏曲,并以“农谭”命名其书,足见其不屈从时俗的艺术独好和胆识
这个系列作品主要是以花部(地方戏曲)为创作主题,创作地点通常离开舞台,发生在街道和荒野之中,那种扎根土地的原始生命力与用艺术生命代代传承的戏曲张力相得益彰
